SINGAPORE, 17th September 2014 – Williams Martini Racing, the partnership of Williams and Martini, two of the most iconic brands in Formula One racing, showcased the best of lifestyle and motorsport racing at the Official Williams Martini Racing Media Event and Opening Party on 17th September 2014 at Zouk. For one thrilling, star-studded night, Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principle of Williams Formula One; Felipe Massa, F1 Driver; Valterri Bottas, F1 Driver; and Susie Wolff, F1 Development Driver, made an appearance at the famed nightclub to kickoff the 2014 Formula One Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix.
On this night, the four Williams team members attending the event paired up with top mixologists from four renowned Singapore bars, Jigger and Pony, 28 HongKong Street, Manhattan Bar and Tippling Club to create their own signature cocktails. Each cocktail is bespoke and draws inspiration from each members’ personality, history and preferences, and features Martini vermouth or sparkling wine as the base spirit.
The Victory Cooler, created by Claire Williams and Akihiro Eguchi of Jigger and Pony, is a slightly sweet, deceptively simple cocktail with Martini Bianco and surprising hints of elderflower. Shakedown, by Felipe Massa and Jeremy Chua of 28 HongKong Street, celebrates the driving star’s Brazilian roots. With Martini Bianco, strong citrus notes and a tinge of Cachaça, the Latin American country’s ubiquitous spirit of choice, it is topped with edible flowers and Martini Prosecco for a tropical flourish. The bold red Vadelma Spritzer, by Valterri Bottas and Ricky Paiva of Manhattan Bar, means “raspberry” in the driver’s native Finnish. It contains all of Bottas’s favourites, boasting crisp flavours of cucumber, mint, Martini Prosecco, and of course, fresh raspberries. Oban’s Punch, created by Susie Wolff and Kamil Foltan of Tippling Club, features a refreshing meld of Martini Bianco and Martini Brut, with a balanced taste profile of apple and sweet elderflower.
On the inception of the cocktails, Alison Lim, Managing Director of Bacardi-Martini Singapore, said, “We wanted to present something unique and new to this year’s Singapore Grand Prix for all the fans. At the heart of the Williams Martini Racing brand lies excitement and vivacity, with the
burgeoning bar scene in Singapore, the signature cocktails are a great way for the public to experience our brand and to celebrate Formula One.”
In true racing spirit, the four pairs also competed in a Cocktail Challenge, where the cocktail that clocked the most sales that evening is slated to be featured in the Sky Suite at the proceeding Formula One events from 19th to 21st September 2014. The four beverages will also be available at their respective bars.
